IMPACT OF AN AMBULANCE AT MT. SELINDA MISSION
A letter from Rev. Matuvhunye, President UCC Zimbabwe
Dear Mr. Kenny (of the United Church of Christ - Canada)
1. Since 2003 no telephone communication as lines are always down so patients are rushed to Chipinge District Hospital when the Doctor is off duty.
2. Patients from Mozambique - Espungabeira come to Mt. Selinda Hospital late that they are also referred to either Chipinge or Mutare General Hospitals.
3. Complications which need the specialists in Mutare are referred using the ambulance and people are saved from pain and death.
4. Transport reliability for patients and waiting mothers are taken care of with the arrival of the new ambulance.
5. Money which used to go for repairs is now used for drugs and domestic items.
6. Patients at Gwenzi Clinic and Chikore Hospital are now receiving the Doctor's attention once per week.
7. Outreach campaigns are now possible with the new ambulance.
8. Utility vehicle for hospital supplies
9. Has reduced fuel and maintenance costs
10. There is very high morale of both the general UCCZ membership and the Mt. Selinda catchment area.
11. Has reduced unnecessary deaths associated with delays to collect the patients from their homes.
12. It is also very helpful for health staff to attend to Cholera cases.
The UCCZ is very grateful to receive a new ambulance for Mt. Selinda which is the pride of the entire UCCZ.
Thank you and may God continue to bless you.
In His service
Rev E M Matuvhunye
