The First Congregational Church of Madison has a very active music program dedicated to spreading the Word of Jesus Christ. We have several adult and children’s choral groups, a rotating handbell choir, a magnificent 1930 Möller pipe organ, a restored 1875 Steinway Grand piano, the Music at the Meetinghouse concert series and much more. You are invited to take part!
Nathan J. Bayreuther, Director
Nathan J. Bayreuther began his professional career at age 13 as a substitute organist at the First Congregational Church in New London. Eventually hired as the Director of Music in 1999, he instituted an annual Lenten Organ Concert Series and also a Music Series of professional ensembles in 2002. He was hired as Director of Music Ministry at the First Congregational Church of Madison in 2005. Teachers have included Dr. Judith Mack and Godfrey Tomanek.
Chosen as the “director of choice” for city-wide interfaith services by the New London Clergy Association, Nathan has received numerous awards, accolades and scholarships including the Roberta Bitgood Organ Scholarship and the Colleague Certification by the American Guild of Organists. He has served on the Executive Boards of the New London and New Haven County Chapters of the AGO and has also served as an organ scholarship adjudicator. Signed to the Arabesque Records label in New York in the spring of 2014, he performs concerts across the region and serves as the organist for the New England Chamber Choir and Orchestra based in Cromwell. He has also led the Nathan Bayreuther Jazz Trio since 1998. He lives with his wife and son in Wallingford and can frequently be found sailing the waters of Long Island Sound in his spare time.
